The government has been urged to restructure the education system including introducing single stream schools to achieve racial unity.

Hamim Samuri (BN-Ledang) said the multi stream schooling system presently implemented did not help make people understand the meaning of unity or the 1Malaysia concept promoted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said the present system should be restructured where all secondary schools would be in a single stream thus placing all races under one roof.

"The multi stream schools can be retained at primary level. The government can takeover and upgrade the secondary schools," he said when debating the Supply Bill 2010 here today. http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/articles/20091028203420/Article/
